Nicholas S. Lee
Nick is an intellectual property and business law specialist with over 16 years’ experience in litigation, counseling, and procurement. Nick counsels both domestic and international clients on strategically developing, implementing, monetizing and protecting their intellectual property assets. Nick has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Illinois Super Lawyers, a distinction given to less than three percent of attorneys in Illinois. Nick is also fluent in Korean.
Nick works closely with his clients to help them leverage their intellectual property and business assets into realized value. In doing so, he has obtained extensive experience in enforcing or defending and securing patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret protection for a wide variety of clients. Nick has also prepared and/or obtained patents relating to organic/inorganic chemistry, pharmacology, biochemistry, immunology, drug delivery medical devices, nanotechnology, green technology, and mechanical technology. In addition to his intellectual property work, Nick is a skilled litigator who has counseled and achieved results for clients in a variety of business law conflicts, including defending and resolving multiple class action lawsuits and products liability claims.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Nick worked for several years as an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries specializing in separation technologies for natural and synthetic materials. He also worked as an associate in a boutique intellectual property firm in Chicago and interned at a full-service law firm (Kim & Chang) in South Korea.
Nick received his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois in 2004. While in law school, Nick received a CALI award in Advanced Legal Writing. He received his dual Bachelor of Science degrees in biochemistry and chemistry from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1996.
Nick is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western District of Michigan, the Sixth, Seventh, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals, and is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Nick has also appeared pro hac vice in various state and federal courts including California, Florida, Texas, Delaware, Minnesota, Indiana, Virginia, Oregon, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Minnesota, Georgia, and Ohio.
