Edward L. Bishop
For over twenty years, Ed has focused his practice on all aspects of intellectual property law, including litigation, counseling, and procurement. He is both a trial bar member and a registered patent attorney. In addition to having a law degree, Ed also has an MBA and undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics.
Ed maintains a national practice and represents companies in intellectual property disputes across the country. His litigation experience with regard to patents and trademarks spans diverse products and technologies including consumer electronics and hardware, computer software, medical equipment, internet technologies, financial products, air regulators, industrial pumps, electronic locks, electronic vision systems and testing equipment, among others.
Besides representing companies at trial, Ed has extensive experience handling temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction hearings. Ed also defends companies against claims of patent infringement asserted by non-practicing entities.
Ed has also obtained extensive experience in securing patent, trademark and copyright protection for a wide variety of clients. Ed has prepared and obtained patents relating to financial products, business methods, e-commerce, internet, computer software, control systems, telephone equipment, surgical devices, laser systems, optoelectronic devices, digital interface systems, sub-micro CMOS devices, electrical phase systems, disk drive storage systems, RF test equipment, electrical ballasts, electrical connectors and gear assemblies.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Ed worked as an electrical engineer for over 7 years. In this position, he evaluated communication and control systems for Honeywell Satellite Systems, Motorola, and Boeing.
Ed received his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 1994, his MBA from Arizona State University in 1989 and his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and mathematics from Kansas University in 1984. In addition, Ed serviced as a judicial intern for then Magistrate Judge Guzman in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Ed is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois and before the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois, U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of Illinois, U.S. District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and is registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
